Processes on How to Make a Giant Paper Mache Head

Procedure One:

Step One: You can buy a head form, or you can make your own out of cardboard. For this tutorial, I will be using one from the craft store. Cut it to size and glue onto card stock paper on both sides with all-purpose glue.

Step Two: Make a cone cut at an angle, then bend it into shape according to what type of face you want (I made mine in an excited expression). Glue on randomly placed eyes that are evenly spaced apart and glued shut for the best effect. Place them about two inches below the top edge of the head.

Step Three: Draw a nose line with a black marker down the center front of the mouth as far back as the desired position

Step Four: For lips, cut a strip of paper for the mouth hole, then bend it into shape and glue it to face

Step Five: Draw features on the head by coloring or painting with any color. This is what makes the project your own creation! Draw hair if desired as well (I used a black marker).

Procedure Two

Step One: For this process, you will need some essential elements. This includes some newspapers. This will act as the main base of the object. You will need some acrylic paints. And there should be a cutter for carving the face.

You will need some colorful markers and plastic paper. You will also need a gym ball as the main head. And lastly, you will need a strong adhesive to keep the papers attached firmly. Once you have gathered all these, you can start working.

Step Two: Now you have to take the gym ball and cover it with a plastic paper. Once the ball is protected correctly, you can easily attach newspapers using glue. You have to cover the full ball in the newspaper. Once the ball is covered, you must take scissors and deflate the ball. Then you have to take the ball out and get two semicircular pieces of paper.

Step Three: Now, you have to join them from the middle using adhesive. Next, you have to paint the ball. You can also add intermediate materials to give it an oval shape. Then you have to use cardboard to make the nose and the ears. Finally, you can paint the ball into a Mache head. In this manner, you can easily create a giant Mache head with minimum elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Paper Will be Best for This Task?

Paper mache can be made out of a variety of materials. Which paper will work best for this task? One material that is commonly used to make paper mache sculptures is newspaper. The newspaper has been recycled and repurposed as art time after time, but it comes with its own risks (e.g., mold).

Other popular choices include white glue mixed with water or flour paste which is more environmentally friendly than the traditional recipe using eggs for binding. Some people go as far as soaking their sculptural pieces in resin at the end of the process to seal them from any potential leaks that may come up over time.

Can I Use Glue for Making a Giant Paper Mache Head?

There are two types of glue you can use for making your paper mache head: paste and liquid. The paste is a thick, gooey substance used to seal porous materials. The liquid is an easy-to-apply coating on the surface of less porous items.

Both should work well in this project, but the liquid will be easier to apply evenly. You’ll need about one quart per 12″ x 18″ sheet for both methods, so it’s better if you buy enough material upfront because most craft stores don’t carry more than 24 sheets at a time (some have been known to carry as little as 16).

Conclusion

Lastly, we hope that the steps we have mentioned here will help make a giant paper Mache head. Beginners can quickly learn this technique and apply it to various festivals. Thank you for your time. Have a nice day!
